Papaya Dwarf ‘Tainung 2’
Flesh is orange-red, tender, and very sweet with an average fruit size of 1.1 kg. The plant is PRSV-tolerant and high-yielding, setting fruit at around 70 cm. Softer outer skin than Red lady. Female fruits are globe-shaped; hermaphrodite fruits have a pointed tip. The rind ripens to a green-orange colour. Because male and female flowers grow on separate trees, at least three trees are needed for pollination and fruit production.

It keeps soil consistantly and evenly moist, which is essential for the shallow root system of papaya plants. Mulch also helps suppress weeds, reducing competition for nutrients, and keeps the root zone temperature stable—cool in hot weather and warm in cooler conditions. Additionally, it minimizes soil splash, lowering the risk of fungal diseases on the lower leaves. Using organic mulch such as straw, compost, or shredded leaves not only offers these benefits but also enriches the soil as it breaks down. For best results, apply a 5–10 cm layer around the plant, keeping a small gap around the stem to prevent rot. However, it is important to remove all mulch during the rainy season to prevent excess moisture buildup and reduce the risk of root rot.
