Phoenix reclinata (Wild Date Palm)
Also called African wild date or Senegal date palm, indigenous to most of sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, the Comoro Islands, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. It is a large, clumping, very hardy, evergreen, palm with shiny, light to dark green, long arching leaves. It naturally grows in riverine areas, swampy woodlands, and moist lowland forests.

Phoenix reclinata (Wild Date Palm) is a beautiful African palm that naturally forms dense clumps of graceful, arching stems topped with elegant, feathery fronds. Its lush, tropical appearance makes it an excellent choice for creating privacy screens, feature plantings, or adding texture around ponds and large gardens. This hardy, adaptable palm thrives in a wide range of conditions and is well suited to Zambia's climate.
Growing conditions: Plant in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, then only during prolonged dry periods. Although drought tolerant once established, it will produce faster growth and lusher foliage with regular watering and occasional applications of a balanced fertiliser. Remove old, dead fronds as needed to keep the clump neat and healthy.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast growing.
