Sweetcorn 'Stowell's Evergreen'

Stowell's Evergreen is a classic heirloom sweetcorn variety that has been cherished by gardeners for generations. Known for its exceptional sweetness, tender kernels, and long harvesting window, this variety produces large ears packed with creamy white kernels. Unlike many other sweetcorn varieties, the ears remain tender and sweet for longer after maturing, making harvesting less time-sensitive. It is perfect for fresh eating, grilling, boiling, freezing, and preserving.

Days to Harvest: 85–100 days

Growing Instructions:

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden.
  • Plant seeds 2–3 cm deep and 20–30 cm apart.
  • Space rows 60–90 cm apart.
  • Plant in blocks of several short rows rather than a single long row to improve pollination.
  • Choose a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Water regularly, especially during tasseling and ear development.
  • Feed with compost or a balanced fertilizer for best yields.
  • Harvest ears when the silks turn brown and kernels release a milky liquid when punctured.
  • Pick regularly for the sweetest flavour.
